Qi Gong

Qi Gong is Life

Qi Gong literally translates as “Life Energy Cultivation”, hence many activities involving the alignment or strengthening of your overall energy or ‘life force’, can be considered qi gong. In my health clinic, I use elements of multiple physical, mental and spiritual disciplines inside this broad category. I incorporate the following:

  • Wuji Qi Gong
  • Mindfulness Meditation
  • Yoga and Posture Rehabilitation Training
  • Strength & Fitness Coaching

Just For You

Each patient responds to qi gong work differently. I tailor our clinical approach based on a few factors: patient medical history,  level of stamina or agility, particular level of pain or current symptoms, interest or experience in mindfulness development.

Wuji Qi Gong

This art and science used to cultivate and balance ‘qi’ or ‘life force’ is deeply rooted in Chinese Medicine, philosophy and martial arts. It is a system of coordinated body postures, movement, breathing and meditation techniques to improve health, to calm the mind, and condition for martial arts and long life.

Qi gong therapy, as well as other branches of Chinese medicine, can be reduced to two simple principles: the cleansing of meridians to achieve harmonious energy flow, and the restoration or nourishing of yin-yang balance.

Wuji is Supreme Stillness

As a trained practitioner of Wuji Qi Gong, I teach patients the importance of bringing simple movements into their daily life. Wuji means ‘Supreme Stillness’, and it is the foundation of most meditation and standing Qi Gong poses. In this tradition of Qi Gong, there are three steps to energy cultivation. First we do quicker Qi Gong movements that release stagnant energy, followed by smoother more elegant motions that create new energy. We complete our Wuji set by holding postures that allow us to store the fresh energy we just created. By returning home to Wuji between each pose, patients grow their mindfulness practice and experience an ever growing sense of peace.

 Mindfulness Meditation

Those moments when we find ourselves spinning in our own minds have at their center an opportunity and a call for stillness. It’s common to get caught in the momentum of our daily lives and thoughts. But as our monkey minds spin like a wheel, we can choose moments to step into the eye of that storm. When we notice we are not just our thoughts, we identify our inner awareness, and return home to peace.

Founded in the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, a world leader in Buddhist mindfulness, as well as the Inner Qi Gong teachings of Mantak Chia, my approach to patients overall wellness is to help them establish a set of Mindfulness practices. Each persons body, mind and lifestyle call for tools that can guide them through their present challenges and into deeper self mastery. As we work together, we will identify the places your spirit is seeking to grow. And you will gain valuable practices that can carry you to your most authentic self.

Yoga and Posture Rehabilitation

Yoga refers to a system of breathing and/or poses that promote mind-body integration and generate balance within those who practice it. The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root “yuj”, meaning “to control”, “to yoke” or “to unite”. Hence yoga is a practice that involves developing a state of unity or ‘coherence’ in which all aspects of one’s self work in harmony, allowing an individual to be so present and undivided that they achieve oneness with the very source of their life.

The poses I choose are modified for each persons body to offer safety and support, yet they offer a dynamic element which the yogi must develop strength and focus to overcome weaknesses and create balance. Some aspects of the poses use cardiovascular training and isometric contractions to build strength easily and enhance agility. Done with mindful self awareness, you will learn to connect with their inner wisdom, and develop a listening for their own limits as protection from over strain.

Strength and Fitness Coaching

While I often use yoga to facilitate strength, there are times when we need to focus on more specific strengthening or standard cardiovascular fitness. If you are someone who really want to up-level their overall health, but are not using your body close enough to your fitness edge then we will work together to tailor an exercise menu for you. I may include yoga, simple resistance or weight training, cardio exercises.

Qi Gong, mindfulness, yoga and general fitness are effective tools for developing one’s mind and body in yog or coherence, and a regular practice of this, coupled with learning the deep and elegant principles taught through many other forms of movement, can most assuredly foster one’s personal growth upon the path to harmony and oneness.
